RULES FOR CLUB COMPETITIONS

  • Only current paid up members are eligible to weigh in fish.
  • All fish presented at weigh in must be gutted and gilled, fish in a green sate (whole) will not be accepted EXCEPT junior bait fish. (defined by the Club as Mackerel, Spotty, Herring and Piper)
  • All fish must be Ministry of Fisheries legal and MOF bag limits and restrictions adhered to at all times.
  • Undersized fish presented at weigh in will not be accepted and will incur demerit points.
  • Members may weigh in only ONE fish per species to be eligible for Club points. NOTE the exception is Junior bait fish where a bag limit of TEN will apply.
  • There are no restrictions as to where a Club member may fish provided they make the weigh in by the designated time.
  • Fish arriving at the weigh in after the stated time will not be eligible for Club points.
  • Club competition starts at midday on the Friday of the competition weekend and finishes at 4pm on the Sunday evening.
  • Weigh-in must be at the Club weigh station, Nelson Suburban Club unless a recognised competition is being held, then members are permitted to have weights recorded and verified at that weigh station.
  • The following species are not eligible for Club points or records Sharks (Note that Juniors ARE permitted to weigh in sharks) Marine eels, Marine mammals, Squid, all Rays, Octopus, Crabs.
  • The use of set nets, Long lines and Spears are not permitted NOTE Spears are permitted in the diving section.
  • No limit is placed on the number of rods or hand lines per member.
  • Members not abiding by the Club rules or adhering to the spirit of the Club will be disqualified from Competition or have their membership  revoked as seen fit by the Committee in the interest of our Club.
  • Junior members are defined as 16 years old or under.

Any new species presented at Club weigh-ins will be added to the categories and points per kg decided by the Dawnbreakers Fishing Club Committee
