Sun City Rockers

The Sun City Rockers are the Rock n Roll Dance section of the Nelson Suburban Club.
Sun City Rockers caters for competition and social dancers in the Sports Hall of the Suburban Club.

We hold the following events:

  • Club Nights
    Every Thursday at 8pm we meet in the Sports Hall, play Rock n Roll music and dance until 10pm. Visitors are always welcome so come along and dance with us, or sit back and enjoy the music.
  • Beginners Classes
    These classes are held in the Sports Hall, 7 – 8 pm on Thursdays. Each class is for 6 weeks, so if you are interested, come along on a club night to find out when the next one starts and other details, and to enrol.   • Dances
    We hold a number of Saturday Night Dances in the Sports Hall. They are open to anyone who enjoys moving to Rock n Roll music. Check the Suburban Club calendar for the next one.
  • Demonstrations
    If you have an occasion or event where Rock n Roll dancers would add to the spectacle and fun, call us on 539 6257 . We enjoy strutting our stuff, and our charges are reasonable!

We hold events for Sun City Rockers members:

  • Improvers and Advanced Classes
    These help our members improve their dancing.
  • Competitions
    We are members of the New Zealand Amateur Rock n Roll Association, so our members can compete in Rock n Roll dancing competitions at National, Regional and Club levels.
  • Coaching
    We have experienced coaches able to assist dancers pursuing a competitive career.
  • Workshops
    We invite top class dancers from outside Nelson to spend a weekend with us, and share their skills. This keeps us in touch with developments in the New Zealand Rock n Roll scene.
  • Social events
    Sometimes we just like to throw a party, and kick up our heels for the fun of it.
  • Trips
    We organise club trips to events such as the NZ National Champs, the South Island Champs, the Rocko NZ festival (www.rockonz.com) in Christchurch and the Wintersun festival  (www.wintersun.org.au) in Coolangatta.
